Peter Wahinya is a research fellow at the Animal Genetics and Breeding Unit (AGBU - UNE) involved in research and development on Merino Lifetime Productivity and genetic evaluation. He has a keen interest in the application of genetics and economics to improve livestock productivity. Peter has a PhD in quantitative genetics from AGBU where he developed breeding strategies for genetic improvement of dairy cattle under different production systems in Kenya. He has been involved in a variety of other projects such as the estimation of genetic parameters of methane emission in Australian sheep and analysis of pure and crossbred genotypes for breed composition estimation and genetic evaluation in beef cattle.
