Biographical Details

Coast is an Associate Professor in Crop Science at the University of New England (UNE), Australia. Prior to joining UNE, Coast was a Senior Research Fellow at the Natural Resources Institute, University of Greenwich; a Research Fellow at the Australian National University; and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). Coast holds a PhD in Crop Physiology from the University of Reading, UK, and a Bachelor of Agriculture in Crop Science (First Class Honours) from the University of Benin, Nigeria.

Coast investigates abiotic stress tolerance in crops with a focus on thermal acclimation of photosynthesis and respiration, and their consequences on crop yield, quality and resilience to climate change. He is also interested in horticultural crop production, particularly protected cropping systems. His research has developed tools for improving crop production and research in challenging environments.
