Biographical Details
Joëlle Coumans joined UNE in 2004 as a post-doctoral fellow with a strong research interest in expression proteomics, which is the study of the regulation of protein expression in function of cell activity, external stimuli, and diseases. She developed this interest during her PhD at the University of Sydney (1998) and subsequent postdoctoral positions at the Institute of Biochemistry and Cellular Genetics in Bordeaux (France) and the University of Hawaii, where she extended her knowledge of molecular biology techniques.
Over the years, she successfully established proteome analysis at UNE. In 2009, she joined the School of Rural Medicine as a Problem-Based Learner (PBL) Facilitator and currently teaches across the first two years of the Joint Medical Program. She is the HDR Coordinator for the School of Rural Medicine. She has co-supervised PhD and Master's students in the field of proteomics, and she is currently supervising JMP research students in the field of health sciences.
