Biographical Details
Jane joined UNE in 2018 as a Lecturer in Indonesian. Jane has a passion for teaching and learning the Indonesian language, as well as the arts of Indonesia. She is an advocate for transculturalism and sees the importance of meaningful interpersonal engagement between people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Jane conducted her PhD research at the University of Queensland, where she examined the use of language in the Indonesian online news media to represent female politicians and their dynamic relationship with power during a period of political and social transition. Specialising in Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), Jane’s research interests include power relations, political discourse, media discourse, Indonesian studies and gender studies. In addition to teaching Indonesian at UNE, Jane teaches and performs Balinese dance in Australia and overseas.
