Biographical Details

Dr Khanjanasthiti lectures in urban and regional planning at UNE, having commenced this role in January 2022. Isara received his PhD in 2021 for his thesis entitled ‘Planning for economic development around a second-tier airport: A case study of Gold Coast Airport’. Prior to his recent tree-change migration to UNE and Armidale, Isara had taught and researched at Bond University, where he also received all his tertiary qualifications, for ten years. Isara has not only conducted external research consultancy but also collaborated on several cross-disciplinary research projects with his colleagues at Bond University.

Isara’s research experience spans several areas of urban and regional planning including smart cities, housing, master-planned communities sustainable campuses, active and healthy living, knowledge-based urban development and climate change. His current research interests are centred around the strategic implementation of smart city ideas for the long-term benefits of both metropolitan and regional communities. Isara is also particularly fascinated by contemporary housing markets and design trends in response to the evergrowing affordability crisis. Another research area Isara has recently become highly interested in is university education. Specifically, he is enthusiastic about investigating how students can be engaged in online learning, an increasingly ubiquitous mode of university coursework delivery in today’s context.
